about the "modern relationship". whatever that is.

there are a lot of terrible songs out there today. lyrically, as well as musically. it seems that some people forgot what music is. or, what it comes from. music comes from instruments, not computers.

anyways. a want to focus on the lyrics for a moment. if you turn to any radio station, no matter what song is playing, 99% of the time it’s about love. one way or another.

examples:
pop/soft rock station: no one makes me feel the way you do.
country: he caught a fish for me and i knew it was love.
rap: i’m in love with her butt.
christian: how He loves us.
hard rock: …maybe not so much about love…?

but you get my point. (hopefully) if you take any song that’s popular today and boil it down to its main theme, it’s love. it could be in a good way, or bad. (i used to love you, i hate you now, you’re my soul mate, you broke my heart, love lost, etc.)

when i noticed that, i just thought that was kind of funny and weird. we, as humans, thrive on love. we feel the need to have it, give it, feel it, spread it…

but back to relationships. there’s a popular song out today called “stronger” by kelly clarkson. i’m assuming it’s directed to her ex-boyfriend. so here’s part of it:

you know the bed feels warmer sleeping here alone. you know i dream in color, and do the things i want. you think you got the best of me, think you had the last laugh. bet you think that everything good is gone. think you left me broken down, think that i'd come running back. baby, you don't know me, cause you're dead wrong.
…you heard that i was starting over with someone new. they told you i was moving on, over you, you didn't think that I'd come back, i'd come back swinging…

now, i understand what she’s saying, and of course i don’t know the whole story (if there is one) but i have a few thoughts here.
  1. i don’t understand how you can just turn on someone like that. if you really loved him, what happened? are you lying?
  2. if he truly loved you, why would he want to wish all of this evil on you now?
  3. maybe you both should be more careful. cause it seems like you really got far from the looks of that first line…maybe you shouldn’t give yourself away so freely.
  4. IS THIS REALLY ALL THERE IS?!

it seems like a vicious and sad cycle, to me…this world and it’s definition of relationships…you find someone you fancy, sleep with them for however long (cause that’s the ultimate test, you know!), then move on if you don’t like them. and that’s how it works now, i guess.

call me old-fashioned, but what happened to true love? from your heart?? because that’s not it.

i guess what i’m trying to say, is that we cant be sucked into the world, friends.

girls, we cant be on the hunt for a guy and a relationship. I mean, we shouldn’t just sit there and do nothing, but we weren’t made to be the hunters. we’re the prey. the targets. the gold. ;) don’t feel like your future relationship relies on you. i mean, it does, but you get my point! don’t freak out or get mad if it’s not happening. he’ll come, just be patient. and wise. and when someone does come along, don’t throw yourself at him thinking he’s it. cause he might not be. and if he’s not, you’ll feel like an idiot for doing so. (trust me.) play hard to get. in a classy way. ;)

and boys. -ha! do boys read my blog??- boys, be wise. please be wise. girls are fragile and dumb. don’t toy with them. if you’ve got your eye on one, don’t be stupid. and do not pressure her. just be nice. and be persistent. in a classy way. ;)

I just believe that love is a precious thing, and it shouldn’t be tossed around as a hobby or flippant feeling you get. and I don’t believe that you can stop loving someone. anyone. especially if you loved them a lot and then they hurt you. you can stop liking them, but the love never goes away. it may shrink, but it’s still there.

even a little.

so if you're going to love, love deeply, strongly, and wisely.

  1. That's so awesome anna, and knowing you, what you went through (and are currently), it makes me really proud. One thing you missed on that last line was forever. we need to love someone forever, not just while they are hot or when it pleases us. :D
